A Mold Spore Test is a specialized inspection for mold.  The actual breathable air in the house is tested. 

In the surface test , samples of suspected infestations are collected and sent to the lab for analysis.

Testing Method: 

Breeze ET Air Sampling Pump collects an outdoor control sample, then each indoor zone you choose (up to 1,000  square feet). Results within 48 hours from our lab.

For the surface test, either a swab or tape is used for collection where necessary.
